The HKHDCA has a procedure for extreme hot weather. The KPCC recommends that sensible precautions should be taken by coaches/captains, including ensuring that senior players with illness or medical conditions are not put in danger and that all players and coaches have adequate water supplies (at least 2 litres on hot days) and regular breaks.
For juniors, if the temperature is at or above 38C then a realistic decision in consultation with parents and your opponent should be made about whether play should be abandoned-see the‘beat the heat’ document here. Even at slightly lower temperatures, in high humidity, heat stress may be just as extreme for children. Bear in mind that children do not cope with heat stress nearly as well as adults, something that not all people may be aware of.
