Code of Conduct

MANDATORY & ENFORCEABLE CODES OF CONDUCT FOR COACHES, PLAYERS, PARENTS, SUPPORTERS AND OFFICIALS

As a club we aim to provide an increasing number of players and parents with the most enjoyable experience of the week, every week. To aid us in achieving this and projecting our desired qualities outside the Club, we have developed the following Codes of Conduct for all stakeholders. Adherence to these codes is key to creating and maintaining the environment desired at the Club.

The Club Code of Conduct applies to all of our officials, volunteers, members and supporters.

All breaches of the Code will be addressed by the Management Committee.

PLAYERS CODE OF CONDUCT

Players are bound by the following Code of Conduct:

Play by the rules – the rules of your Club and the Laws of the game
Never argue with an umpire or other official – without these people you can’t play cricket
Control your temper - verbal abuse of officials and sledging other players doesn’t help you enjoy or win any games
Be a good sport at all times – acknowledge good play, whether it’s from your team or the opposition
Be a team player – It’s a team game, treat it that way
Treat all players as you would like to be treated - fairly
Cooperate with your coach, the umpires and team-mates
Play for your own enjoyment and to improve your skills – not just to please parents and/or coaches
All players are reminded that there is zero tolerance towards racial discrimination and/or harassment in the HK&HDCA. This means there is to be absolutely no use of language or gestures that offend, insult, humiliate, threaten, disparage or vilify another person on the basis of that person’s ability, gender, race, religion, colour, descent or national ethnic origin under any circumstances.

Any player who breaches the Code in a manner which the Committee considers to be a sufficiently serious example of misbehaviour, dissent or other unsporting behaviour, may have this taken into account in any future selection of teams.

PARENTS AND SUPPORTERS CODE OF CONDUCT

Parents and supporters are bound by the following Code of Conduct:
Remember that you are there for the participants to enjoy the game
Encourage participation, but don’t force it
Teach that enjoyment and honest effort is far more important than winning
Never ridicule mistakes or losses – supporters are there to support, not downgrade
Lead by example and respect all players, coaches, umpires and spectators – physical or verbal abuse will not be tolerated
Be a good sport yourself and acknowledge good play from all teams
Recognise and support all volunteers who are giving up their valuable time
Never publicly criticise umpires or officials – raise personal concerns with the Club in private
Don’t use ugly remarks based on race, religion, gender or ability – you’ll let down your family, yourself and your Club if you do. Many such comments are actually now illegal

By registering your child and/or yourself with the Kissing Point Cricket Club you agree to abide by these principles. You support the Club in its undertakings and encourage the Club to take any necessary disciplinary actions, including the suspension and banning (where warranted) of any players, parents and or spectators for repeated or serious breaches of these Codes of Conduct.

COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT

Coaches are required to sign the Kissing Point Cricket Club Code of Conduct. All coaches, whether accredited or not, are bound by the following Code:

Set a good example and display utmost honesty and integrity in all dealings
Teach fair play and good sportsmanship
Never place the value of winning above that of instilling the highest possible ideals and character – remember that children participate for fun and that winning is only part of it
Be reasonable in setting demands, goals and expectations
Maintain a current knowledge of the Laws of Cricket, the Local Rules, and of training methods (both theory and practical). Promote and abide by those Rules
Teach and interpret the Laws of Cricket to the Players
Group players competitively and develop their confidence
Never ridicule or shout at players
Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all individuals within the context of your involvement in Australian Cricket, including refraining from any discriminatory practices on the basis of race, religion, ethnic background or special ability/disability
Encourage and create opportunities to develop individual as well as team skill
Avoid the trap of overplaying talented players just to win
Ensure player safety and welfare as a priority - above winning. This includes waiting for all players to be picked up after training or a game.
Remember the age of your team - keep things in perspective
Lead the way with respect for opponents, umpires and officials
Attain coaching accreditation and keep up with new ideas
Avoid aggressive behaviour and derogatory and insulting language – set the right example
Communicate professionally with players' parents about their child's progress and areas that may require improvement
Be fully aware of the Club’s policies and procedures and follow these procedures and policies
Take the doctor’s advice when determining when an injured player is fit to return to training and/or competition
Attend Club Coaching meetings
The consumption of alcohol by coaching staff prior to training and any match that Kissing Point Cricket Club is involved in will not be tolerated

OFFICIALS CODE OF CONDUCT

Club Officials are bound by the following Code of Conduct:

Involve others in planning, leadership, evaluation and decision making related to
Australian Cricket
Create pathways for people to participate and develop through the sport, not just as
Players, but also as coaches, umpires and administrators
Ensure equipment and facilities are safe and appropriate to the ability level of the
participants
Establish qualified and competent Coaches and Officials, capable of developing the
sport
Help coaches and Officials highlight appropriate behaviour and skill development and
help improve the standards of coaching and officiating
Assist all participants in Australian Cricket to know and understand the Laws of Cricket
Set a conduct example for others to follow
Make it clear that abusing people in any way is unacceptable and will result in disciplinary action
Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person
Make no detrimental statements in public (radio, television, print or electronic media) in respect of the performance of any match officials, players, or any policy decisions of the Club, the Association or CRICKET Australia
Do not engage in physical and/or verbal intimidation, abuse or conduct toward any Player, Official, Umpire or Supporter. Such actions are totally unacceptable.
Always respect the use of facilities and equipment provided
Ensure on and off the field behaviour is consistent with the principles of good sportsmanship
Ensure all Parents, Coaches, sponsors, Officials, medical staff and Players understand their responsibilities regarding fair play in sport
Display fairness and uniformly in applying the Laws of Cricket
Be honest in your assessment of situations
Be consistent and courteous in calling all infractions
Promote fair play and appropriate sports behaviour
The health and safety of the Players must be the most important reason to be weighed in during the decision making process
Use common sense to ensure the “spirit of the game” for players is not lost by being too pedantic when applying the Laws of Cricket
Ensure you remain up to date with any Law changes and/or interpretation of Laws
Seek continual self-improvement through study, performance appraisal and regular updating of competencies
